SASSA SRD Status Check: How to Check, and What Every Result Means

Check your SRD status free on the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za using your 13-digit ID number and the phone number you applied with. Each month shows its own result: Approved, Pending, Declined with a reason, or one of a handful of other statuses. This page explains every one and what to do about it.

Check your SRD status

Opens the official SASSA portal. Checking is free — no site should charge you for it.

Secure The Grant card headed "Check SRD Status, Get Payment Dates", beside a phone showing an SRD application status of Approved with a scheduled next payment date.

How do I check my SRD status?

Every method below is free and run by SASSA. The portal is the most complete because it shows every month and the reason for any decline.

  1. Official portal. Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status, enter your ID number and the cellphone number registered with SASSA, and press Submit. Each month is listed with its status.
  2. WhatsApp. Send the word Status to 082 601 0111 and follow the prompts.
  3. SMS. Send STATUS followed by your ID number to 32555 from the phone number you applied with. A reply gives your current status.
  4. USSD, no internet needed. Dial *134*7737# from your registered number and follow the menu.
  5. Toll-free line. Call 0800 60 10 11 (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00) with your ID and registered number ready.
  6. SASSA office. Visit with your ID if none of the digital methods work for you.

Only these channels

Any other website, app or WhatsApp number offering to "check" your status either sends you to the portal above or is collecting your details. Never enter your ID number anywhere except the official portal.

What does each status mean?

Wording as shown on the SRD portal. Each month is assessed on its own.
StatusWhat it meansWhat to do next
ApprovedThat month passed all checks. A payment date appears once SASSA schedules a batch.Nothing, unless no date shows after the month's payment run — see below.
PendingThe month's checks against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, NSFAS and banks are not finished.Wait. Reapplying does not speed it up and can create a duplicate.
DeclinedThat month failed a check. The reason is shown next to the status. If the reason is wrong, lodge a reconsideration within 90 days on the appeals page.
ReferredFlagged for extra verification — usually identity, sometimes fraud screening.Complete any SMS verification link SASSA sends. If none arrives within a few days, call the toll-free line.
Bank details pendingApproved, but your account is still being verified with the bank.Confirm on the banking-details page that the account is active and in your own name.
Cancelled / SuspendedThe application was withdrawn or stopped. If you did not cancel it, use the reinstate option on the portal.
FailedA technical or data error, not a decision on your application.Check your details and try again, or use WhatsApp or SMS.
No record foundThe ID and phone number entered do not match any application.Use the exact phone number you applied with. If you changed it, update it on the portal first.
Reapplication required / Application already activeEither SASSA needs a fresh application, or you tried to apply while one exists.Follow the wording: reapply if told to; otherwise check the existing application's status.

Why is my status Approved but there is no payment date?

Approval and payment are separate steps. A month can be approved before SASSA has scheduled its batch, before your bank account has been verified, or while an identity check sent to you by SMS is still open. In each case the date appears once the step completes. If the month's payment run has passed and there is still no date, check your banking details on the portal, complete any verification link, and then call 0800 60 10 11 and ask specifically why no payday has been assigned.

Why is the status check not working?

The portal is busiest at the start of the month and on payment days, and it can time out or show an error then. Try again outside those times, or use WhatsApp or SMS, which run on separate systems. A "Failed" or blank result during heavy traffic is not a decision about your grant.

Common questions

Is it free to check my SRD status?

Yes. Every official channel — the portal, WhatsApp, SMS, the toll-free line and SASSA offices — is free. Anyone charging a fee is a scammer.

Does a declined month affect the next month?

No. Each month is assessed separately. A decline applies only to the month named, and the next month can be approved without a new application.

How long does Pending take?

Until that month's checks finish. There is no fixed time. Reapplying does not shorten it.

What if I lost the phone number I applied with?

Update your number on the SRD portal first. Status checks only work with the number SASSA has on record.
