Check your SRD status free on the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za using your 13-digit ID number and the phone number you applied with. Each month shows its own result: Approved, Pending, Declined with a reason, or one of a handful of other statuses. This page explains every one and what to do about it.
Opens the official SASSA portal. Checking is free — no site should charge you for it.

Every method below is free and run by SASSA. The portal is the most complete because it shows every month and the reason for any decline.
Only these channels
Any other website, app or WhatsApp number offering to "check" your status either sends you to the portal above or is collecting your details. Never enter your ID number anywhere except the official portal.
| Status | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Approved | That month passed all checks. A payment date appears once SASSA schedules a batch. | Nothing, unless no date shows after the month's payment run — see below. |
| Pending | The month's checks against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, NSFAS and banks are not finished. | Wait. Reapplying does not speed it up and can create a duplicate. |
| Declined | That month failed a check. The reason is shown next to the status. | If the reason is wrong, lodge a reconsideration within 90 days on the appeals page. |
| Referred | Flagged for extra verification — usually identity, sometimes fraud screening. | Complete any SMS verification link SASSA sends. If none arrives within a few days, call the toll-free line. |
| Bank details pending | Approved, but your account is still being verified with the bank. | Confirm on the banking-details page that the account is active and in your own name. |
| Cancelled / Suspended | The application was withdrawn or stopped. | If you did not cancel it, use the reinstate option on the portal. |
| Failed | A technical or data error, not a decision on your application. | Check your details and try again, or use WhatsApp or SMS. |
| No record found | The ID and phone number entered do not match any application. | Use the exact phone number you applied with. If you changed it, update it on the portal first. |
| Reapplication required / Application already active | Either SASSA needs a fresh application, or you tried to apply while one exists. | Follow the wording: reapply if told to; otherwise check the existing application's status. |
Approval and payment are separate steps. A month can be approved before SASSA has scheduled its batch, before your bank account has been verified, or while an identity check sent to you by SMS is still open. In each case the date appears once the step completes. If the month's payment run has passed and there is still no date, check your banking details on the portal, complete any verification link, and then call 0800 60 10 11 and ask specifically why no payday has been assigned.
The portal is busiest at the start of the month and on payment days, and it can time out or show an error then. Try again outside those times, or use WhatsApp or SMS, which run on separate systems. A "Failed" or blank result during heavy traffic is not a decision about your grant.
Yes. Every official channel — the portal, WhatsApp, SMS, the toll-free line and SASSA offices — is free. Anyone charging a fee is a scammer.
No. Each month is assessed separately. A decline applies only to the month named, and the next month can be approved without a new application.
Until that month's checks finish. There is no fixed time. Reapplying does not shorten it.
Update your number on the SRD portal first. Status checks only work with the number SASSA has on record.
