A declined SRD month means one of SASSA's automated checks failed for that month, and the reason is shown next to the status. The decline applies to that month only. If the reason is genuinely true for you, fix the cause so the next month passes; if it is wrong, lodge a reconsideration on the official appeals page within 90 days.

Open the official status page, find the declined month, and read the reason beside it. Everything else depends on that wording. A decline is not a judgement on you — it is the result of a database match for one month, and the same check runs again next month.
One month at a time
Each month is assessed separately. A decline in July says nothing about August. You do not reapply after a decline; you either fix the cause, appeal the month, or both.
| Reason | What SASSA found | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Alternative income source identified | Money of R624 or more entered a bank account linked to your ID that month. The most common reason. | Valid if you really had that income. If it was a once-off gift or someone else's money in a shared account, appeal with an explanation and move to an account in your name only. |
| Identity verification failed | Your details did not match Home Affairs, or the eKYC facial check was not completed. | Check your name, ID and date of birth match your ID document exactly; complete eKYC on the verification page; then appeal the month. |
| UIF registered / UIF payment identified | The Department of Labour's records show you receiving UIF, which cannot be held with SRD. | Valid while UIF is paid. If UIF ended, ask the Department of Labour for a status letter and record update, then appeal. |
| NSFAS registered | You are recorded as receiving an NSFAS bursary or stipend. | Valid while funded. If your funding ended, get written confirmation from NSFAS and appeal. |
| Existing SASSA grant | Another social grant is paid in your own name. | Valid — SRD cannot be held with another grant in your name. A Child Support Grant is paid for the child, not for you, so it does not cause this; appeal if that is what was matched. |
| Government payroll registered | Your ID appears on a government salary system. | Valid if employed. If you left government employment, obtain proof of the end date and appeal. |
| Deceased record on DHA | Home Affairs has you recorded as deceased. | Not valid. Go to a Home Affairs office with your ID to correct the record, then appeal. |
| SAFPS flagged | Your ID is on the Southern African Fraud Prevention Service list, usually because of identity theft. | Contact SAFPS to see the listing and clear it if it is not yours, then appeal. |
| Debtor flag / other government database | A match against another government record SASSA uses. | Ask SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 which database matched, correct it at the source, then appeal. |
Ask one question: is the reason true for that month? If you really had income above R624, really received UIF, or really held another grant, the decline is correct and an appeal will not change it — fix the cause so the next month passes. If the reason does not describe your situation, appeal. You have 90 days from the decline, each month is appealed on its own, and a successful appeal pays only that month. The full procedure is in how to appeal a declined SRD month.
Missing the window
A month not appealed within 90 days keeps its decline and cannot be paid later. Appeal as soon as you see the result.
No. Each month is checked separately. Fix the cause and the next month can be approved with no new application.
No. A month that is declined can only be changed by a successful appeal for that month. Fixing the cause helps future months.
Yes. Explain in the appeal that it was not income. Move to an account in your own name only, so other people's deposits are not counted against you.
SASSA's reconsideration can take up to 90 working days. Check the result on the official appeals portal, not by phone.
